Have you ever wondered what life was like before electricity? Electricity is hugely important to modern day life and where would we be without all those important electricians who maintain this on our behalf?

Most trades require you to complete an apprenticeship program before you are allowed to be licensed and work on your own. Students who pursue a career as an electrician, however, earn money while receiving on-the-job training. This allows you to work, learn, and get paid all at the same time. Sounds great, right?

Being an Electrician

Here are our top 5 reasons why you should become an electrician:

  1. You won’t need to worry about finding a job.

Since the Brexit vote electricians have been known to be in shortage (you can read more here :—shortage-of-skilled-tradesmen-in-the-uk). Today, electricians are in demand more than they ever were. Electrical contractors have reported declining numbers of qualified workers. They say that many older electricians are nearing retirement and don’t have enough young electricians to replace them.

  2. It pays the most of all trades.

The average salary of an employed electrician is £30,172 which has increased by 4.60% since 2013 and this is nearly £2,000 more than plumbers who rank second in the trades pay scale. Because it is not your regular suit and tie job, most people don’t consider the monetary benefits of becoming an electrician. The pay is good and there are opportunities for pay increases the longer you are in the trade.

  3. Challenging and interesting work

For a lot of electricians, the work is very varied. You may be carrying out a standard installation in the morning, and then testing all evening. You can be assured that no two jobs will present the same challenges. It’s a job suited for someone who wants to learn a trade, work in different locations on a daily basis, and learn how to use many types of equipment.

  4. The “office” space

ne of the most appealing reasons to become an electrician would be to own your own office on wheels. When you’re an electrician, your office will be changing all the time! You may get a call-out to a store, followed by a residence on the other side of town. Yes, moving around all the time can feel like a hassle to some people. However, when you work in a trade, the amount you travel breeds some fantastic stories. If you love to travel, you should definitely consider becoming an electrician.

  5. Be your own boss

Many people move wherever their job takes them, but electricians are needed everywhere. That need means you can move across the country or stay right in your own hometown and still find employment. Being an electrician is a fantastic route into your own business.
Electricians will never go hungry. This has made being a self-employed electrician an incredibly safe route to take. After a few years of experience, you’ll be in a position to set up your own firm. You’ll be able to set your own rates and hours, and never have a boss nattering away in your ear. If all goes well, you may get to a position where other electricians are doing the work for you, while you sit back and grow your empire. If you have a passion for the work, the sky’s the limit!

  6. These benefits are just a few of the perks that come with being an electrician. Look into this career more and see, if you’ve found your life’s purpose.

Enthusiasm is the electricity of life. How do you get it? You act enthusiastic until you make it a habit.
