A walk in closet is a perfect addition to the room. Aside from being extremely functional, a nicely designed closet can instantly upgrade the aesthetics of the room. This is the area that will make your house a dream one. You don’t have to be Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw to have a great closet! We are bringing you some ideas that will make you think about it, that’s for sure!

Nail the Colors

Combine your favorite styles. Whether it is classical, glamour or minimalist, you choose what style will define you through your closet. A dream closet doesn’t just store clothes, it reflects your personality, too. Things like customizing your cabinet finish, painting the walls or adding a colorful rug can all go a long way towards creating a perfect walk-in. So what color will you go with? Pink or maybe black? It is entirely up to you. If you have a large walk-in closet and want to make it cozier, try using a darker paint color and the opposite for smaller ones. Darker colors also make dust less noticeable. Keep in mind that while painting a closet to match the color of the rest of the room can create a simple and elegant vibe, you may need to repaint your closet every time you paint your room.

Add a Mirror

One common feature of dream closets is a mirror. It’s a luxury and it is practical at the same time – checking how you look is part of the getting-dressed process, right? For functionality there is nothing more functional than a full length mirror in your walk-in wardrobe to stop, admire and change your mind about that perfect outfit before going out into the big, wide world. If you don’t have enough space for a huge mirror, you can’t go wrong with mirrored door fronts. They are very functional and you can combine them with glass knobs to add a more feminine sparkle to the design.

Perfect the Lighting

Most closets lack windows. Plus, the lighting in closets is usually an afterthought. This creates a poorly lit space — not ideal for when you’re trying to pick out that power outfit for your next big meeting. If you want to duplicate the closets of Kim Kardashian or Mariah Carey, it’s important to add lighting worthy of a star. If you want to install many shelves, light them up with LED strips. It’s practical and energy-efficient, not to mention that this way each shelf will be illuminated individually, a great plus, especially for those at the bottom and the top of the closet. If you are more into the glamorous style, then a big chandelier is a must-have for you! A chandelier would look glamorous and elegant and would make the space look and feel inviting.

Add a Seat

It may feel like a small thing, but adding a seat to your walk-in closet can be the ticket to feeling like you have a truly special space right there in your home. You can also add a small bench. It will not only provide a place to sit and try shoes, but is also a perfect surface for draping clothes on on those lazy days (we all have them). An ottoman is another perfect solution. You can lay out outfits on the ottoman or sit on it. If you want more storage space, try an ottoman that opens up.

Organize Like a Boss

Organized Hangers in a Walk-in Closet

Once you’ve invested in a walk-in closet upgrade, it’s time to showcase your items. You need to follow some basic rules:

  • Group items like bags or shoes in one section
  • Color coordinate all clothes and accessories
  • Include favorite art and fashion books on your shelves and counters
  • Use a coordinated series of clothing hangers

Boutique closets are magical places. You don’t have to be in a Sex and the City episode for your wardrobe to provide a bit of fantasy. They definitely enhance your life and make it a bit easier to live. If you already have your fantasy walk-in closet, show it to us! We’d love to see your pictures! Tweet them to @flattro_
